En el libro, cuando Bella visita a los Cullen, se habla sobre una cruz que perteneció al padre de Carlisle. En la película, se ve al fondo de las escaleras de la casa de los Cullen, aunque no se comenta nada sobre ella.
Cuando Edward regresa junto a Bella mientras ella está sentada en el banco de fuera de la fiesta, él se despide de Jacob y le dice a Bella "Te dejo sola, durante dos minutos, y bajan los lobos." Se trata de una vaga referencia a Jacob convertido en hombre lobo en el resto de la serie.
A Bryce Dallas Howard se le ofreció el papel de Victoria, pero lo rechazó ya que encontraba el papel demasiado pequeño. Más tarde tomó el papel cuando Summit Entertainment confirmó a Rachelle Lefevre para "Eclipse" (2010).
Mientras exploraban la región de La Push, Catherine Hardwicke y el equipo vio a gente haciendo surf y le sugirió a la guionista Melissa Rosenberg que lo añadiera en el guión. Rosenberg estuvo de acuerdo y lo agregó, pero finalmente la escena tuvo que ser desechada debido a la falta de presupuesto.
Robert Pattinson se trasladó a Oregon unas semanas antes de que comenzara el rodaje y no habló con nadie para tratar de sentirse tan aislado como Edward Cullen.
